I wanna calculate courant number,so first I need to calculate wave velocity.and for the wave velocity I need the average velocity of flow.
how should I calculate the average velocity for a flood, with the first main flow of 10(m3/s) and max flood flow of 200(m3/s)?

You can have RAS compute courant number:

On the Unsteady Flow run editor, check the “Computation Level Output”

From the Unsteady Flow run editor, select Options > Output Options > Computation Level Output Options

    click on Courant

    Run the model

from the main RAS window select Options and click on either Unsteady Flow Spatial Plot or Unsteady Flow Time Series plot

    Hello Jarvus,

I am also trying to find the Courant number to stabilise my 2D model. I have followed your guideline, but my time series plot shows as blank when I try to bring it up… After reading the manual, it seems like this feature is only for 1D modeling, so then how can I find the maximum velocity in 2D modeling?

The method of drawing a profile line in the RAS Mapper seems very rudimentary and not precise, which tells me that there should be an easier way to find my max velocity that I don’t know about?

I really appreciate if you can help me out!

    Best,
    Dan
