    Hi!

HEC-RAS comes with a bunch of examples. For 2D applications, there are two examples available: Bald Eagle Creek and Muncie. They contain alternative ways to model the scenarios at hand (1D/2D, only 2D, etc.). Even if this is already some great resource to learn how to use RAS2D, these two models do not cover all the applications for which the program could be used for. For instance, it does not include a rain-on-grid example, detailed modelling of a bridge, detailed modeling of a river and its banks, etc.

I wonder if anyone here could point me to some online resource(s) that would include other examples?

    Thanks!

There isn’t really one place to look. If you want to see some examples people have done, you could look at conference proceedings as people have tested a lot of different things in HEC-RAS.

    Hi,

Thanks cameron for your reply. I had already found a few conference proceedings with some good examples, it’s already a good input, yet, it’s sometimes a little frustrating not to know who things were modelled in details.

Hopefully there’ll be “open” models in the future, as there’s open data, open source, etc.

For the most part, when you leave the conference there is still TONS you will not know. The way i learned was by taking my knowledge of 1D unsteady state modeling into the 2D class with me. What helped me was that once i completed the course (which i did not feel was great in hindsight) i took a known project with hydraulic results that were calibrated to real time events and converted a portion of it to 2D.

Everyone should try and do the same when entering 2D modeling. HEC-RAS can run a 2D model without any errors showing continuity is fine, but is ENTIRELY incorrect. That is what is scary when people take these courses without any independent testing.
