Associating HEC-RAS with a .prj file

I am running HEC-RAS 5.0.1 with Windows 7 Professional and I can’t get the program to recognize HEC-RAS .prj files v 5.0.1. It was initially saving it as 4.1 which I was running previously. I uninstalled HEC-RAS 4.1 and it associated the files with HY-8. I unistalled HY-8 and it is now associating the files with Adobe Acrobat. Our IT guy it can’t figure it out. Any suggestions?

if you right click on the .prj file, go to properties, select change (opens with), and go to the HEC-RAS executable.

This should not be required though as HEC-RAS 5.0.1 can read 4.1 files just fine.

I did that and it didn’t work. The problem is when I created a new file with HEC-RAS v. 5.0.1, it saved it as a v. 4.1 file, so when I doubled clicked on it to open it, it opened it with v. 4.1, not 5.0.1.

I don’t think that RAS has a feature where you can open a project with, say, version 5.0.1 but save it as a version 4.1 file. The File>Save As menu doesn’t give any options to save as a previous version.

It sound like to me like it is a Windows/IT issue where the *.prj files are associated with the wrong executable.
