Are x-section lines supposed to be straight?

I see “crooked” cross sections in the hec-georas manuals. I ask this question because width of 1d reaches can be limited by non-intersection of x-section cutlines(georas) rule, here is a picture of crooked cutline

They should be perpendicular to the flow lines. See the post linked below:
