HEC-RAS now comes with 2D-sediment transport. This is great.
I am trying to figure out if the new sediment model includes lateral (crosswise) bedload movement:
1) Lateral sediment movement due to helical flow / secondary currents, typically moving the bed load towards the inside of a bend?
2) Lateral movement due to the bed sloping in the crosswise direction. The bed load tends to move downslope even if the flow is parallell to the slope. (This is not the same as reducing the critical Shields number for particles on a slope.)
Some 2D models include lateral movement, but I am not sure if HEC-RAS does?
Kind regards,
