I am trying to develop a flood map, in order to do it i have created several 2D flow areas in order to introduce the rainfall information of each area but I do not know hot to connect the 2D flow areas. Any suggestion of how I should proceed?

    Thanks

Via lateral weirs, however they are limited to 500 points, these are your choices.

Model them all in diff plans for which you will have to then analyze which ones share flows (in high AEPs this becomes difficult)

Model them with multiple lateral weirs connecting them limiting the connection points

Model them with a breakline that increases the cell sizes at that BL face then use the same coordinates to make a weir (less recommended)

you use the 2D area connection button in the geometry window.

You are stuck with storage area connectors to tie the 2D areas together right now. HEC is working on giving us the ability to vary rainfall across a single 2D area but I don’t know if that will be in next version or not…which I heard may be sometime later next year.
There is not a 500 point limit any longer on lateral and connectors but I would recommend filtering points down as much as practical. A lot of “saw toothing” can cause some stability issues. When you layout the 2D areas try to find logical edges to share like elevated embankments or where you don’t anticipate much flow to cross. There isn’t a velocity component you can turn on for storage area connectors like what laterals have and as such you will have a noticeable headloss going across the connector.

    Really???? No Point limit??

That changes a lot for me. I really had no clue that was remove and did not see it in the supplemental notes so i have been operating accordingly to this point.

    THANKS!
