Version 5.0.3 is now available from the HEC website.  Besides bug fixes, there are a few new or improved features of note:
  • Culvert Inlet/Outlet Control
  • Using 2D Flow Equations at Lateral Structures
  • Flow and Volume Time Series Output on Profile Lines in RAS Mapper
  • Profile Line Point and Tick Marks
  • Legend for RAS Mapper
  • Improvements to sloping and hybrid map rendering modes
Please read the release notes for more information.

interest, but it can be used for modelling of flow over lateral spillway (side channel spillway)? thanks

    yes

The new "Hybrid" rendering mode option is exciting, but it does not appear that you can export a Raster based on Terrain (saved to disk) anything but the old default "Sloping (Interpolated Values)"

Has anyone else had trouble exporting rasters other than in the Sloping rendering mode?

Having a couple of problems with 5.0.3:

    1. Tried running a 1D model developed in 5.0.0, and the run stalled trying to complete the "Layer: XS Interpretation Surfaces" under "Write Geometry Information". The model ran in 5.0.1.

    2. A minor issue, but if I add interpolated cross-sections, the HTab table starting points for the interpolated sections are often below the invert, so I have to reset them to the invert. I don't remember this being an issue with previous versions, as it's caught me out a few times with 5.0.3.

I noticed issue number 2 as well. It's easy to fix but still annoying to have to do every time you interpolate cross sections. I'll let HEC know about it, but until 5.1 comes out, we'll have to live with it.

    Hi Derek,

I've experienced the same issue. Have you been able to find a solution yet?

    Hello Chris
I have a watershed basin and in the middle of it there is a lake. Can i somehow model the 2d area from the watercress to the boundary of the lake and also assign the lake as a storage area?
I 'm considering then connecting both areas with a dam – overflow to simulate the waterfront and the other structures around the lake.

    Thank you
    P. Marinis

Yes, you should be able to do that. Just use an SA/2D Area Connection to connect the 2D area up with the storage area.

I can't figure out how to define the 2d Area from the watercress of the basin to the boundary of the lake.
At the Storage Area/2d Flow Area Outlines Table i insert the coordinates of the watercress and right below the coordinates of the boundary of the lake. Of course that doesn't seem right and HEC-RAS connects some points from both boundaries and some area is ignored. Is there another way to import that area in HEC-RAS?

Could you try drawing the two areas directly in RAS Mapper (as opposed to importing coordinate points)?

    on June 28, 2017

When you finish drawing the boundary of a 2d area the whole area is calculated as a 2d area.
I'm sending you an example photo to see what i'm trying to model.

RAS doesn't let you completely enclose a storage area within a 2D area (or vice versa), as shown in the figure. Why not just make it all one 2D area?

  13. Pavlos Marinis

    on June 30, 2017

The lake is about 20sqkm and i don't have enough elevation data for its bottom. Ι would like to play some flood scenarios depending its water surface elevation.

Then I would try having a 2D area upstream of the storage area and a separate 2D area downstream of the storage area. All connected to each other via SA/2D area connections.

  15. Pavlos Marinis

    on July 4, 2017

Correct! I will try splitting the 2d area surrounding the lake.

would like to have a bibiographic reference that details the equations of the thermal modulus of HEC Ras. think you

hi , i have an error message for interpolation between 2 XS .. when i click on interpolate new XS , the message is "unable to create the interpolated river stations between sections:2 1 there are only 7 characters available for interpolated river stations try again with a larger interpolation spacing" and what ever I do I got the same message

  18. Chris Goodell

    on February 1, 2018

What are the two river stations you are interpolating between? If the river station numbers have too many characters, and you interpolate to a relatively small spacing, you'll get this error.

I am getting this same error for 199.564 and 199.531, I am trying to get about 5 stations inbetween.

Was this ever resolved? I am having the same issue in my model. I am trying to fit 5 cross sections in about 700 ft

    Problem :
unable to create the interpolated river station between 1 0 , there are only 7 characters available for interpolated river station

    Solution : follow thoses steps
    – clic ” windows button ”
    – go to ” parameters ” then go to ” hour and language ”
    – go to ” language ” then clic to ” parameters of administration language ”
    – clic ” formats ” then clic to ” supplementary parameter ”
    – replace the comma with the dot to ” decimal symbol ” and then apply for all

NOW you can interpolated without problem
